Before I tell the story of the Cornish Lime Pitts it would be as well to tell you that Cornwall is The southern most County in Britan. Or at least to outsiders it is, to those people who live in Cornwall it is a Contry which is Ocupied by foriners. Many people are of the oppinion that Cornwall would be a lot better off if we were a separate contry. The people have a Very strong identy and a very different sense of humour. This is not always appreciated by outsiders. |
The Legend goes something like this: Long ago when Cornwall was a lawless land and the men were real men and the Women were real Women and the Sheep were real Sheep, one of the main indutaries in the area was lime digging. As you may or may not know lime is very acidic and speeds up the decomposition rate of anything it comes into comtact with. In one particular north Cornwall town the people were becoming restless due to the unreasonable demands of the owners of the pits. They were outsiders! | ||||||||||||||||

The owners of the pit as well as being forign were not being reasonable. They expected the workers to work long hard hours for little pay. The housing was shoddy and worst of all they stopped serving Guinness in the Pit Pub (The Limes) The Cornish have a Lot in common with the Irish Including a love of stout. On a particularly dark and stormy night the village people took time out from their nocturnal smuggling activities to have a meeting it the Limes about the explotation they were forced to suffer... ... They decided that something had to be done to rid themselves of the dictator and all his kind. This was the meeting that caused the birth of the | |||||||||||||||||
